What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai or Thai boxing was initially developed nearly one thousand years ago for unarmed combat on the battlefield, for use by Thai soldiers defending their nation of Siam against foreign invaders. Today, Muay Thai lives on as Thailand’s national sport – with over 100’000 fighters actively competing in Thailand alone. Also known as the “Science of Eight Limbs”, Muay Thai emphasizes simplicity and directness in its use of the body’s “eight weapons”, namely: punches, elbows, knees and kicks.
However, Muay Thai’s secret weapon lies in its system of extremely intense physical conditioning competitive athletes typically engage in 6 to 8 hours of training each day to be competitive. Muay Thai fighters are often considered to be among the toughest athletes to be found. Despite the intensity, Muay Thai is considered a sport founded on the values of honor and respect – athletes are expected to be gracious exponents of Muay Thai’s rich and noble history in all contexts.
Do you need to have experience or be in shape to join?
No! Our job is to get you in shape. Joining the beginners or mix group classes will be a great start for you to develop power, stamina and basic technique, there are other students in your level that just started and beginners are supported in our gym
Do you train women in Muay Thai?
Yes! More and more women joining our gym and getting great work out in fun environment. All classes are co-ed and women receive the same training and encouragement as men. Muay Thai training is great for women, all of our female students love our cardio and of course…kicking the pads!
Is Muay Thai safe?
Muay Thai training is quite safe thanks to sophisticated pad training that evolved to keep fighters healthy between fights. Muay Thai has also proven very effective outside the ring and has been embraced enthusiastically by practitioners of a variety of self-defense, sporting, military and law enforcement activities. All of our trainers are highly professional and experienced.
What should I bring to class?
For the class simply bring sport cloths,better shorts, we provide all equipment, you can also buy your own equipment at our gym if you like to. We have showers but you should bring your own towel.
Do we train kids?
Yes! At the moment only for private classes.
